Search for a Shopify app agency, and most of what you’ll find builds apps for the Shopify App Store, not for your customers’ phones.
The companies that do build iOS and Android apps for Shopify brands are a mixed group. Some are Shopify agencies that added mobile to their services. Others are app studios that build for any platform, and their quotes run from about $40,000 to well past $200,000.
And the build is only the start. Your app needs updating for every iOS and Android release, every change to your store and every new Shopify app you add, for as long as it’s live.
This guide compares the agencies and companies that build mobile apps for Shopify brands, what each one costs, and how to choose the right partner for your store.

The Best Shopify Mobile App Development Agencies in 2026
Every company on this list has built mobile apps for Shopify brands, not just Shopify stores or apps for the Shopify App Store. Here’s what you need to know about each one to judge whether it fits your project.
1. MobiLoud

Best forShopify brands that want a custom app and a team to run it, without the cost of a custom build
- Based in
- London, UK and Montreal, Canada
- Founded
- 2013
- Time to launch
- 2 to 4 weeks
- Works with
- Shopify, Shopify Plus and headless Shopify
- How they build
- A custom app built on your existing Shopify store
- Pricing
- MobiLoud starts at $799 per month. Custom features are scoped and priced with you.
- Notable Shopify apps
- Pharmazone, Cold Culture, Bottle Stop, Matt & Nat
MobiLoud gives you what you’d hire an agency for: a custom app for your Shopify store, designed around your brand, and a team that builds it, launches it and stays with you after launch.
The difference is in how the app is built. That’s what brings the cost down, closer to an app builder than to a custom build.
It starts with the store you already have. Most agencies start from a blank codebase and rebuild your store screen by screen. MobiLoud starts with your live Shopify store: your theme, your products, your Shopify apps and your checkout.
Everything your store does already works in the app, so there’s nothing to rebuild and no second storefront to keep in sync.
Our team designs and builds your custom app. We create your app’s navigation, push notifications, sign-in and app-only pages around your brand, with native iOS and Android code in Swift and Kotlin.

Custom features, built to order. On Enterprise, when your app needs something no template offers, we build it into your app, from Face ID login and barcode scanners to the SDKs your team relies on. We scope and price each one with you before any work starts.
A team that stays after launch. We submit your app to the App Store and Google Play, handle both reviews, and update it for every iOS and Android release. Our customer success team also helps you with push notifications, app promotion and growth.
”It makes me very happy that we signed the right company to build our app and help us grow the app. It was a very good decision.”
A cost closer to an app builder. MobiLoud starts at $799 per month, with the build, publishing and maintenance included. That’s much closer to what brands pay for a premium app builder than to a custom build, which runs to six figures before maintenance starts.
Custom projects, like a new native feature or an SDK integration, are scoped to fit your needs and priced with you before we start.
MobiLoud has published more than 2,000 apps since 2013. Its Shopify customers include Pharmazone, whose app drives 63% of its revenue, Cold Culture, with more than 250,000 app downloads, and Bottle Stop, whose app brings in 10% of its revenue.

ArcTouch is a strong choice when your app needs custom systems behind it, like a loyalty program built only for the app, and you have an enterprise budget for the build and its upkeep.

Fueled suits a premium brand that wants a design-led native app and is happy to pay US studio rates for it.
4. Steamclock

Best forSubscription brands that want a small, senior native team
- Based in
- Vancouver, Canada

- 2010

For Ora Organic, the plant-based supplements brand, Steamclock built an iOS app for Ora’s subscribers on Shopify’s Buy SDK, choosing native Swift over React Native. It launched in under five months.
Steamclock suits a brand that wants senior developers on a focused native build, and doesn’t need a big agency around it.
5. Domaine

- New York, US (remote-first)
- Founded

Domaine is one of Shopify’s Platinum Partners, with more than 300 people, and builds Shopify stores for brands like Creed, Timex and bareMinerals.
For mobile apps, Domaine builds on Reactiv, an app platform for Shopify stores, and writes its own code on top. That’s how it built the Missouri Star Quilt Company app, with shoppable video tutorials and daily deals.
Domaine is a natural fit if it already runs your Shopify store. Keep in mind that the app runs on Reactiv’s platform, so your costs will include Reactiv as well as Domaine’s work.

Its process starts with a week of discovery and two to three weeks of prototyping, followed by an 8 to 14 week build. That suits a European brand that wants a modern custom app from a Shopify specialist.

When an app builder makes sense
An app builder suits a smaller Shopify store with a standard theme, a tight budget and someone on the team with time to design and run the app.
You rebuild your storefront in the builder’s editor, and the app connects to your Shopify catalog and checkout. Our list of the best Shopify mobile app builders compares the main options.
When a custom agency build makes sense
A custom build suits a brand whose app is a product in its own right, with features and flows that don’t exist on its website.
It’s the most flexible route, and the most expensive one. You’ll need the budget to build the app, and to pay developers to keep it running for as long as it’s live.
When MobiLoud makes sense
MobiLoud suits an established Shopify brand that wants a custom app without a custom budget, and doesn’t want to run a second storefront.
Our team designs and builds your custom app on the store you already manage, then publishes and maintains it. Your checkout, integrations and custom features keep working.
How Much Does Shopify Mobile App Development Cost?
Shopify mobile app development costs anywhere from under $100 a month for a basic app builder to $500,000 or more for a custom app from a top agency. Where you land depends on who builds the app, and who maintains it.
Custom agency builds cost $40,000 to $100,000 with a skilled offshore team, and $200,000 to $500,000 or more with a top US or European agency. Developer rates run from about $20 an hour in South and Southeast Asia to $150 an hour in North America and Western Europe.
Maintenance adds 15 to 20% of the build cost every year for a custom app. That covers updates for new iOS and Android versions, security fixes and changes to your store. Our Shopify mobile app cost breakdown goes into the numbers in detail.
App builders cost anywhere from under $100 to several thousand dollars a month. Some also take a share of your in-app sales.
MobiLoud starts at $799 per month. The build, App Store and Google Play publishing and ongoing maintenance are included, and there’s no share of your app sales.
Whichever route you choose, you’ll also pay Apple $99 a year and Google a one-time $25 for your developer accounts, plus your push notification provider if you outgrow its free plan.
How to Choose a Shopify Mobile App Development Agency
Most agencies on this list can build you a good app. The right one is the one that fits how your store works, and what you need from the app after launch.
Check that they build mobile apps. Many agencies that offer “Shopify app development” build apps for the Shopify App Store, not for your customers’ phones. Ask for links to iOS and Android shopping apps they’ve launched for Shopify brands, and check that the listings are live and recently updated.
Ask how they’ll build it. Agencies build apps in native Swift and Kotlin, in a cross-platform framework like React Native or Flutter, or on an app platform like Reactiv or Tapcart. Each can work. Ask who’ll be able to maintain the code later, and whether you’ll pay for a platform on top of the agency’s fees.
Ask what happens to your Shopify apps. Your reviews, loyalty, subscriptions and search apps all need to work in the app. Ask which ones work on day one, which need custom integration work, and what that work costs. Our guide to Shopify apps and integrations in a mobile app covers what to look for.
Ask how checkout works. Your customers should be able to pay the way they do on your site, with Shop Pay, your discounts and your payment methods. Find out whether the app uses your own Shopify checkout or a rebuilt one.
Find out who maintains the app. Apple and Google release new versions of iOS and Android every year, and change their store requirements more often than that. Ask who handles that work, how quickly, and whether it’s included in the price or billed by the hour.
That last point is where many app projects go wrong. Matt & Nat’s first app ran fine for a few years, until the service behind it began to slip and the app fell behind, which is why the brand moved its app to MobiLoud.
Count the second storefront. If your app is a separate build, every launch, promotion and design change has to happen twice: once on your site and once in the app. Ask who does that work, and how long it takes.
Get the full cost in writing. Add up the build fee, the monthly fee or retainer, maintenance, any share of sales, and the extra work every new feature will need. The cheapest quote isn’t always the cheapest app.
Make sure the app is yours. Your app should be published under your own Apple and Google developer accounts, so the listing, the ratings and your installs stay with you if you ever change partners.
Our Perspective on Shopify Mobile App Development Agencies
We’re MobiLoud, so we’re not a neutral party here. We put ourselves first because we believe we’re the best way for most established Shopify brands to launch an app.
We’re not the right fit for everyone. If your app needs to be a product in its own right, with a budget to match, a good custom agency is worth the money. If you want an app for a few hundred dollars a month and have the time to run it yourself, an app builder will serve you better.
But if you want what an agency gives you (a custom app, and a team that cares about it) without six figures upfront or a second storefront to run, we’d love to show you what your app could look like.
The Bottom Line
The best Shopify mobile app development agency for your store is the one that fits your budget, your stack and the way your team works after launch.
For most established Shopify brands, that’s MobiLoud: a custom app built on the store you already have, and a team that builds, publishes and maintains it, at a cost closer to an app builder than a custom build. Book a call and we’ll show you how it would work for your store, or start with a free preview.
